Quick Dock 1.2

Version 1.2 of Quick Dock has been submitted to the Widget Gods for approval. It incorporates McBain's updates as well as a few other fixes. (He added a very cool Drag and Drop for new shortcuts...)

Assuming this fixes the last of the issues, I'll work on some more features.

  2. Make sure it points to a valid directory and put shortcuts in it. :)

How can you get this widget to work with Vista? It does not automatically locate the quick launch folder, it does not see the shortcuts I placed in the folder I created and browsed to. The Q works however; I cannot get this widget to add icons. acwild@yahoo.com

I installed the new 1.2 version, still not working though. It allows me to drag and drop the shortcuts, I get a message asking if I want to replace the existing shortcut (which I do not see) if I choose yes or no... either way, I only see the "Q". acwild@yahoo.com

It's not as good as I think, cause when u open some window, the window block the quickdock widget. So, I think I still prefer quicklaunch in the taskbar.

Can I make the suggestion to be able to remove the grey background - i.e. to have the icons directly against the desktop wallpaper

    nice widget mate.

Is it possible to make it go vertically? I'm getting a WS monitor and would like to have it down the right side opposed to along the bottom.

All in all, nice job. :)

Hey, this widget is terrific!!! I really love it, but there's one things still missing: I want the widget to display the icons in a self-defined order, not in alphabetical order. Just in case you're considering a version 1.3... ;-)

I installed 1.2, created my buttons -- everything looks ever nice.

One problem, clicking or double chicking does nothing -- the shortcuts won't lanuch.

    :(

I checked the function of each shortcut from the folder level and they launch fine.

  13. Work around for FAST opening of drive / folder shortcut. Suppose you want to open d:/downloads, than do the next things: create a textfile, type in the textfile "start d:/downloads" than save the textfile as downloads.bat and put it on the c-disk in the C folder. Than create a shortcut on desktop to c:/downloads.bat change the icon if needed and drag this shortcut to the quicdoc thing. Remove the shortcut from your desktop and ready you are. Maybe Mr.Wilson can automate this in quickdoc???

First, when I click one of the icons, a command prompt came up instead of the program.
Any fix to that? I have changed from the default program and checked the shortcuts work.
Its well cool, if i could get it to work

I would also like a vertical option.

It is possible to do some customization by playing with the directory of shortcuts. Somebody didn't like the alphabetical ordering. In the directory where I store the shortcuts, I just edit the shortcut name to put a number (01-xx) at the start of the name.

Also, it is possible to run multiple instances of this widget. Just copy the widget and give it a different name. Point each instance to a different directory of shortcuts. At present, I am running three instances, each dedicated to a different cluster of programs.

Oh, yeah, in addition to multiple instances and renaming the shortcuts to get the right order, it is also possible to insert blank spaces in the Quick Dock.

Simply create a transparent icon. Create a shortcut to that icon, name/number the shortcut to put it in the right place in the Quick Dock. Now, you have just made clear groupings within the Quick Dock.

Can not use this, I keep getting a cmd prompt. I did select the folder and it still will work. Boooooo The folder is C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch. What can I do? Great idea though, please fix it.
